The Avenue Viera: The $60 million, 415,000-square-foot open-air development, off Lake Andrew Drive west of Interstate 95 in Viera, includes Bed Bath & Beyond, Belk, Books-A-Million, Old Navy, Rave Motion Pictures, the Melting Pot, World Market, the area’s first Kohl’s retailer and much more, 321-634-5390, www.theavenuealist.com

Viera MarketPlace includes Sports Authority and Office Depot. South of The Avenue are the Shoppes of Lake Andrew, a Wal-Mart Supercenter and a Super Target.

Babcock Street: On Babcock Street, just north of Hibiscus Boulevard, is a renovated shopping area built in 1959.

The landscaped strip center on Babcock’s east side is Melbourne Shopping Center, which includes Big Lots, Publix, several discount apparel outlets, restaurants and small shops.

A Sears store and several fast-food, ethnic and sit-down restaurants operate along that stretch of Babcock Street.

Cocoa Beach: In the downtown area, just north of the Minutemen Causeway and between Orlando and Atlantic avenues, lies Cottage Row — military houses from the 1940s and ’50s that have been converted into quaint shops, salons and restaurants.

Near state roads 520 and A1A, is a tourist landmark, Ron Jon Surf Shop, the beach’s colorful two-story, 24-hour icon of surf wear and beach attire.

Cocoa Village: This historic spot in the streets of downtown Cocoa is tree-lined and brick-paved with several independent venues specializing in gift items, arts and crafts, galleries, gourmet foods, metaphysical books, antiques and clothing.

The village also includes restaurants from casual to upscale and bars featuring music. It is the scene of popular arts and crafts shows, which take place the first weekend of March and December and the third weekend of October and May.

The area also includes an amphitheater, fishing on the Indian River, an interactive fountain, historic homes, churches, walking tours, a ghost tour and the state headquarters for the Florida Historical Society.

The Civic Center, Riverfront Park and Porcher House are among the intimate settings that can be rented for weddings, parties, conferences and meetings.

Crossroads Marketplace: Titusville’s newest retail development is on SR 405, just south of SR 50. Consisting of more than 200,000 square feet of retail space, the marketplace is anchored by Target. Other stores include Kay Jewelers, Marshalls, PetCo and Merle Norman.

Eau Gallie: The Eau Gallie area of Melbourne, which is on the riverfront east of U.S. 1 and runs north of the Eau Gallie Causeway to south of Parkway Drive, is part of the latest portion of the city to be assisted through creation of a redevelopment district. The area is home to art galleries, bookstores, antique shops, a bakery and restaurants.

Fifth Avenue: This beachside extension of U.S. 192 in Indialantic is lined with a collection of restaurants and specialty shops. The area includes a Starbucks coffee shop and a Cold Stone Creamery ice cream store.

Florida Marketplace: The center at 1396 Babcock St., Melbourne, 321-956-2100, opened 40 years ago as Brevard Mall, the county’s first enclosed mall. Most of the Marketplace has been turned into office and professional space. A few retail operations still exist, including Bennett Auto Supply.

Historic Downtown Melbourne: The area along New Haven and Strawbridge avenues is home to specialty shops that sell antiques, artwork, crafts, jewelry and clothing. Indian Harbour Beach: Three large shopping centers vie for customers’ attention along east Eau Gallie Causeway. You’ll find familiar names, such as Coastal Home by Bealls, Publix and Wal-Mart, in addition to various specialty shops and restaurants.

Melbourne Square: The mall is anchored by Dillard’s North and South, Macy’s, J.C. Penney, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Circuit City. The mall is on U.S. 192, a major thoroughfare and shopping area. Home centers, furniture stores and discount stores line the route from U.S. 1 to Interstate 95. Palm Bay West Regional Shopping Center: This strip mall in the Palm Bay area covers 265,000 square feet at Minton and Malabar roads. Anchors and other stores include Winn-Dixie, Bealls, Ace Hardware and Tuesday Morning.

Satellite Beach: Satellite Beach has a shopping plaza with specialty shops and consumer service businesses. Satellite Beach also has the only movie theater among the south beach cities.

Searstown Mall: This Titusville mall contains Sears, Athletic Dept., Bealls Outlet, Fred’s Dept.
